In Review – 3 Ways to Improve Your Digital Project Management
Digital project management is expanding with the growing digital transformation of existing businesses, Jennifer said. Therefore, having a digital mindset is a must.
Jennifer added that companies are innovating new ways of working, so for the whiteboard session Jennifer focused on the mindset, skill set and toolset needed for digital project management.
Three Ways to Improve Digital Project Management
- Hire a Project Manager: That’s a given, but select a project manager who has digital PM experience and training. If you can’t find a person who fits that criteria, then choose a candidate who is committed to growing and willing to get training for new toolsets, approaches and best practices in digital PM.
- Organize Your Projects Better: The next step is to update and digitize your project organization. There are many products that are more robust and dynamic than Google Docs and Excel. Search them out, experiment and see which is the best fit. Make sure that whatever product you decide to use has an online repository that is easy for everyone to access. Then organize that by project, using consistent naming conventions and filing structures. This sets you up to develop a digital strategy to help you better manage those projects, clients and vendors.
- Track Client Facing Concerns: In order to serve clients best, document all their concerns and clearly assess what they are. Then, assign them to a team member to track and close. This is how you can ensure a “big win” for you and your team.
Pro-Tip: Before you make the leap to digital project management, it’s important to know what it is and which tools and skills are required for project managers to succeed. Learn where they’re being hired and at what salary, then you’ll be able to take full advantage.

Today, we’re talking about three ways to improve your digital project management. Well, today, we’re seeing that digital transformation continues with existing companies. We also see that digital implementations expand with new companies and startups.
So, more and more, having a digital mindset is a must. And we’re seeing that some companies are innovating some really cool ways to work.
So, on this whiteboard session today, we wanna think about tool set, mindset, and skill set.
So, let’s look at some ways to improve. Well, first of all, we wanna hire a project manager. Well, again, when we think about tool set, mindset, and skill set, think about this. Hire someone who has digital project management experience and training. Well, because digital transformation and digital project management has been out for some time, so now we can find people with the expertise.
But sometimes it’s not possible. So, if not, we wanna find someone who is committed to getting training on these things. Again, tool sets, what new tools are out there today that assist and help with digital project management.
We also wanna look at some approaches for digital project management. There are also now some best practices in industries, in different verticals that you maybe in. If your company is beginning to implement it across different organizations, you can leverage those.
Also, organize our projects better. So, again, we’re talking about digital project management and the management of the projects. So, look beyond Google Docs and Excel. Now, again, there are more tools that are coming out every day that can assist. So, set up an online repository that’s easy to access by all.
Organize things by projects, so it makes sense for people on teams to be able to go to those projects and find files that they need. And then, consistent naming conventions and filing structure. So, when you’re dealing with multiple people on your team, or vendor partners, even some of your customers, or stakeholders, you want people to be able to know where to go and be able to find things that make sense.
Also, we wanna create a digital strategy, be able to define how to manage the projects, the clients that you’re working with, and also your vendor partners.
And number three, track client-facing concerns. This is where teams, organizations, and companies can really score big. This is becoming more and more important every day.
So, be able to have a way to document their concerns, asses what they are, and who maybe they need to be assigned to, be able to track the status, and be able to close them out to keep the customer informed about what’s going on.
